Introduction

Keisen Judo Club was established in 2006 to foster and promote the sport of Judo for all ages and physical levels of ability. It is the only judo club based in East Grinstead, West Sussex and provides great opportunities for fun, healthy recreation and competition.

The club is fully accredited with the national governing body, the British Judo Association (BJA), and provides fully qualified coaching and tuition. Classes cater for novices through to full competitive level players with sessions for both junior and senior members.

Keisen Judo Club also has a close alliance with the local youth services, providing support to the West Sussex Youth Services curriculum policy of participation, equal opportunities and promotion of health for young people. The Neighbourhood Youth Worker, Jackie Cooper, who is based at the Wallis Centre acts as the clubs Child Protection Officer and holds the position of Club President.

Japanese Origins

The club's name is taken from the Japanese word for "meridian" and is so named because of the Prime Meridian line which passes within a few metres of its Wallis Centre Dojo.

The Keisen club logo was designed with the help of World-renowned Japanese calligraphy artist Eri Takase, who working from her California-based studio, produced the Japanese script. The badge shows a red hemisphere which represents both the Prime Meridian line and the Japanese flag. The Japanese calligraphy simply translates as "Keisen Judo Club".
